  1. Take reusable grocery bags and produce bags when you shop.
  2. Recycle your plastic bags at the grocery store.
  3. Repurpose plastic bags. We use ours to line bathroom trash cans and pick up dog poop!
  4. Start a compost bin for your kitchen trash.
  5. Shred your paper recycling and toss that in the compost bin too.
  6. Give away your unneeded clothes and household items to a charity. You’ll be helping others live sustainably too! Greendrop will even come get them from you!
  7. Use Freecycle to give things away or get needed items.
  8. Shop at Goodwill or other thrift shops. They are the OG recyclers!
  9. Don’t buy cheap junk that will break in a few weeks. Your kids don’t need all that plastic crap from the Target dollar bins.
  10. For that matter, don’t buy anything unless you truly need it.
  11. Fix broken electronics rather than throwing them out.
  12. If you must get rid of a broken electronic product, recycle it.
  13. Recycle used batteries.
  14. Buy items in bulk whenever possible. It uses less packaging!
  15. Use rags instead of paper towels.
  16. Only flush your toilet when you go number two. (If it’s pee, let it be!)
  17. Living green and frugally also means turning off lights when you leave the room.
  18. Wash your clothes in cold water only.
  19. Unplug appliances when you’re not using them.
  20. Only run your dishwasher when it’s full.
  21. Keep your tires inflated to the manufacturer recommended psi. It saves gas!
  22. Consolidate your errands so you’re driving less.
  23. Carpool or take mass transit.
  24. Wrap gifts in old newspaper. Or better yet, forgo the wrapping paper all together.
  25. No goody bags at kids’ birthday parties! Nobody likes them anyway, and they get tossed in the trash.
  26. Start a backyard garden.
  27. Cook at home rather than eating out.
  28. Carry reusable water bottles and coffee cups.
  29. Eat less meat. Go for 3 days a week with no meat at all.
  30. Have receipts emailed to you rather than printed.
  31. Pack a picnic for the pool, beach, or park rather than buying food at the snack bar.
  32. Pack lunches in reusable containers.
  33. Green living doesn’t have to mean never eating out. But when you eat at restaurants, only take the number of napkins, plastic ware, and condiments that you will use. Return unused items.
  34. Make a meal plan for the week ahead, and plan to use up all perishable foods before they spoil.
  35. Don’t water your lawn.
  36. Install solar panels. Many companies will do it for free!
  37. Encourage your friends and neighbors to live green too!
